IWR1443BOOST: NRST button for power cycle

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, IWR1443

Hello,

I'm working with IWR1443BOOST+DCA1000EVM to evaluate RADAR devices.

I've run several different demos now and studied the manuals, and I find many references to power cycling the device as the way to get the SOP jumpers re-read (lines re-sensed), in case you need to change boost modes of the device during your process. (For example, in the Out of Box Demo for IWR1443, you need to change from Flashing to Functional mode). It's always specified to use NRST to force this power cycle, but I'm trying to do that in my device and it's not working.

Example:

- I connect the devices to power with SOP config 101: Flashing mode.

- I flash the binary for Out of Box Demo.

- I change the SOP jumpers to 001: Functional mode, and press NRST button (the led NRST decreases it's intensity while the button is pressed)

- I open mmWave Demo Visualizer and try to connect to my hardware. Not achieved (status: connecting)

So no actual power cycle is being carried out. Nevertheless, when I manually power cycle the device (unplug and plug the supply jag), I manage to connect with mmWave.

This is happening in every context I need to change SOP values (I need to do a manual reset because NRST button is not actually doing nothing).

What could be happening?

- Am I not understanding NRST button function?

- It's my device NRST button not functioning?

- Is there an aditional step to power cycle the device and sense the SOP lines that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance,

Julia Sanchez.

  • Hello,

  • Hello,

Can you show details on how you are connecting in the OOB demo? Are you setting up the COM ports correctly? In the device manager you should see two COM ports, one for UART and one for DATA. These need to be setup correctly in the visualizer to connect. Also, I recommend to remove the DCA1000 when using the OOB demo. It is not needed for use with the visualizer.

    Regards,

  • Hello,

Sorry for the delay on my answer.

As you sugested, disconnecting the DC1000 was enough to make NRST button work correctly.

I suppose, as this line (NRST)  is brought out on the 60-pin HD connector, there was a conflict when trying to control it from the IWR1443BOOST. But then, is there any command I cand send from my PC to force a Power Reset when using DCA1000EVM connected through the 60-pin connector? Because if I've lost control from IWR1443BOOST when connecting the DCA1000EVM, there has to be some way to access the line, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for your attention and regards,

    Julia
