Hi,

Let me ask you a basic question.

Is there any problem if voltage(5V) is applied to "VOUT" pin when power is not input to VDD?

I suppose it seems to be no damage to the device but let me confirm for sure.

    Takumi,

    We cannot recommend to apply 5V to VOUT when power in not input to VDD. This could cause a violation of the absolute maximum table specified in datasheet leading to damage of the device.

    Thank you very much for your reply.

    Do you mean the violation is "VOUT" specification "(VDD+0.3) max", right?

    That is to say, "no power supply" means VDD = 0V, then, VOUT must be under 0.3V.

    So in case of applying 5V to VOUT with no power supply may cause damage.

    Is my understanding correct?

    I would like to know the failure possibility as actual.

    Can I understand following, that is to say,

    "If it is applied 5V for a long time, the possibility of failure increases, but if it is applied for a short time, there is no effect(problem)."

    If you have the data of "short time", please let me know.

    Of course, there is no need to guarantee the value of the data...I would like to know your feeling about the data.

    Hi Takumi,

    I would not say that if 5V is applied for a short time that there would be no effect. Even if 5V is applied to Vout for a short time, one of the absolute maximum rating conditions could be violated causing damage to the device. I cant be certain of the probability of damaging the device with 5V applied short time vs long time, but it should be understood that both conditions can damage the device.
