TUSS4440: TUSS4440

Part Number: TUSS4440

Hi. We need to detect distance between sensor and copper wire behind PVC isolation material from 1mm to about 5mm range. Will we be able to achieve this with TUSS4440? If so, what is t he smallest single piezo sensor we can use? Thank you in advance!

  • Hello Tofik,

I don't think that ultrasonic would work well for this application due to the short range.  Very short range measurements are difficult with ultrasonic as there is a "blind zone" where the TX signal is overloading the RX.  This signal will dampen, but this makes it very difficult to distinguish the RX signal while the TX is still ringing.  This can also be reduced by using a bi-static configuration(1TX transducer  + 1 RX transducer), but I think 1mm to 5mm range will be difficult.

Have you considered inductive sensing?  Our LDC161x devices offer very high resolution(28 bit) that could potentially work for your application with a well designed sensor coil.  What is the diameter of the copper in the wire?
