FDC1004: CFL interference

Part Number: FDC1004

Has anyone seen an effect on the sensor response in close proximity (2M) to a CFL lamp?

Since the part operates at 25KHz, and CFL lights now operate in this range, what can be done to remove the interference?

  • Mark,

One way to reduce the interference could be the use of via the FDC1004's built-in drivers.
There is an app note as well as two blog posts (Part-1, Part-2)that give some guidance on this topic.
Once the active shields are installed, orienting the shielded sensor away from the CFL noise source could be an option as well, if that is possible.

Depending on your application's requirement, you might be able to use differential sensors to attenuate some of the interference as well.

You can find a comprehensive list of app notes and other collateral at the  FDC1004 Capacitive Sensing FAQ page.
