Hi, I have a question related to crystal oscillator.

I would like to create a platform to implement the prototype of the automotive radar using AWR2544. It is understood that a crystal clock source of 40 MHz or 50 MHz can be used, and we can see that several requirements are written on the datasheet. If I want to use it for a automotive application, do I have to attach an auto-certified product (crystal source)?

Or, can any product be used if all the information on the datasheet is satisfied?

Also, if possible, can you recommend between 40 MHz and 50 MHz?

I would like to know about criteria about crystal's frequency selection. (e.g. , low price, related to functional safety, dependence on design process, etc.)

Hello,

Yes, you need an automotive qualified part if you plan to use in an automotive application.

For 50MHz part recommendations, you can refer to the part used in the AWR2544LOPEVM.

If you prefer to use a 40MHz part, you can refer to the part number used in the AWR2944EVM.

The recommended crystal oscillators specifications are provided in the device datasheet.

Thanks for sharing information.

If I ask you related questions,

Can we use another frequency other than 40 MHz or 50 MHz?

And should we use / select a product with only the integer frequency number? How about fractional frequency number?

Dear Junseuk -

The SOP selection only has two choices for reference crystal.

additionally, from the TRM you can understand a bit more why it needs to be 40MHz or 50MHz - as this is reference for subsystem from which the fundamental range is derived from.
