TMP117: Multiple TMP117/TMP119 connecting to a single MCU.

Part Number: TMP117
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP119

HI

As per my understanding there are only two communication protocol i.e. I2C & SMbus that are supported with TMP117/TMP119. I want to connect 100 TMP117/TMP119 one a single BLE MCU hence considering the addressing limitation of I2C I don't think it may be possible, since I haven't worked on SMBUS hence I am not sure if its possible even using that.

The only possible solution which can to my mind is keeping same communication line but switching power (VCC) to all temperature sensors using some multiplexer. Please let me know if there is any better way how this can be achieved.
Thanks

  • Hello Piyush,

TMP117/TMP119 has 4 address options depending on the ADD0 pin connection; please see table 7-2 in the datasheet. This is the same case for i2c and SMBus.  To use more more devices with a single MCU, you could mux the SDA signal or power depending on which sensors you want to access. You could group the devices by 4, and select a different address option for each device in the group.
