DRV425-BUSBAR-EVM: Sensing by inserting in a magnetic core slot?

Part Number: DRV425-BUSBAR-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV421, DRV425

Tool/software:

Team,

Can the DRV425-BUSBAR-EVM card be used in a comparable setup as the DRV421EVM below?

The DRV425EVM does not seem to be suited in this case as the PCB is quite wide compared to DRV421EVM.

Thanks in advance!
Anthony

  • Hi Anthony,

    Thank you for your post.

The main difference between the DRV425 and the DRV421 is that the DRV425 has the fluxgate sensor and compensation coil integrated into the device. Therefore there is no need for the external compensation coil and magnetic core when using the DRV425. This is why the EVM was designed in a wider footprint.

The DRV425 is intended for sensing magnetic fields generated from a busbar-type system as shown in this app note: ±100-A Busbar Current Sensor Reference Design

What is the reason you are looking for the DRV425? Is there some performance metric you are trying to meet with the DRV421?

    Best Regards,

    Joe
