TMCS1107: Surge current when using TMCS1107A4B Hall Effect current sensor

Part Number: TMCS1107

Tool/software:

Going to be using the TMCS1107A4B Hall Effect current sensor to monitor AC current that is powering an LED Driver unit from Mean Well.  Nominal running current is 1.67Arms, but during startup there could be a surge current of up to 70A for 1ms (charging capacitance on the Mean Well LED Driver unit).  Want to know if this could cause any damage to the TMCS1107A4B?

  • Hello,

Thank you for using the TI forum. This is fine to do and will not damage the device. Below is the relevant info from the datasheet. Just note that the output of the device will saturate during the surge current for that version of the device.

    Regards,

    Mitch
