AWR2544: Question on swra801.pdf

Part Number: AWR2544
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2944,

Tool/software:

Hi,

Customer has below questions on swra801.pdf. Would you pls help?

1. Does below additional 1+dB SNR for LOP refer to one direction (TX or RX) or two-way (TX to RX)?

2. In Figure 4-2, it seems that there is 6dB improvement on azimuth plane compared with AWR2544 LOP waveguide antenna and AWR2944 Microstrip Patch Antenna. How these 6dB comes from? No BGA to PCB transition loss as Table 2-1 shows and better antenna gain with waveguide antenna itself (compared with same FOV Microstrip Patch Antenna)?

Thanks,

Chris

  • Hi Chris,

    1. Does below additional 1+dB SNR for LOP refer to one direction (TX or RX) or two-way (TX to RX)?

[Sami] It is Two way (TX to RX).

[Sami] The overall antenna gain and efficiency is better with 3D waveguide antenna.  Also, the routing loss on the antenna side is lower with 3D waveguide vs. patch.
