Hello,

I have a problem understanding the angular resolution with this reference design. In MIMO-operation the angular resolution is approx. 1.5°, which I undestand using the angular resolution equation theta = 2/N, with a few virtual elements overlapping.

My problem is with the Beamforming that is described as a second measurement, because it is stated, that the angular resolution is the same, but how is this received when we transmit with all antennas at a time or is the Beamsteering process used with TDM-MIMO?

I know that the original team, who wrote the Design Guide are no longer in charge, but is there maybe a more detailed information possible in why the angular resolution is the same?

Which state, that the angular resolution is not improved and even worse with beamsteering, which would add up to me.

Is the measurement for the AWR2243 Design Guide with Beamsteering made in TDM/BPM-MIMO Mode? Otherwise I could only think of an angular resolution ~7,16 degres, or how would i calculate the aperture size D in the formula provided of your thread?

Hi,

In the following threads, "beamforming" refers to the case when all the Tx are enabled with zero phase applied to all Tx. The information in the threads is correct.

In TIDEP-01012 "beamforming" refers to the case when a phase shift is applied to the Tx. The phase shift is modified every frame. With this method it is possible to reduce the angular resolution. However there is a cost paid in the duration (number of frames) required to achieve that.
