mmWave Studio PostProc error !!

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, AWR1642BOOST, IWR1642BOOST

Hi,

I am usind the DCA1000EVM to capture raw data from AWR1642BOOST. In ht emmWave Studio, I am always facing a problem when running the DataCaptureDemo.

Actually, everything was successfully configured, but when it come to the PostProc, I face this issue:

MWMCR::EvaluateFunction error ...

The file C:\ti\mmwave_studio_01_00_00_00\mmWaveStudio\Scripts\..\PostProc\adc_data.bin is empty. Please capture more data.,1,
Error in => process_adc_data.m at line 52

Trace:
at MathWorks.MATLAB.NET.Utility.MWMCR.EvaluateFunction(String functionName, Int32 numArgsOut, Int32 numArgsIn, MWArray[] argsIn)

do any one have an idea how to solve this issue ??  (MCR is installed with the right version and reinstalled again to be sure.)

thanks in advance,

Ahmed

  • Hi,

What version of Windows are you using?

We have seen similar issues with customers using Win10

    Thank you
    Cesar
  • Click view>output, you will see the log info of each operation in mmwave studio. Make sure there is no error before running the postproc step. You can send us the output printout and we can help take a look.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Michelle
  • Hi,

I am using win 7. Actually, i tried it in win10 and I didn't faced this problem.

It says always to check the ethernet connection.

  • Click view>output, you will see the log info of each operation in mmwave studio. Make sure there is no error before running the postproc step. You can send us the output printout and we can help take a look.

  • Hi,

everything goes well till the PostProc step.

  • Just to make sure, all radar configuration steps before connecting with DCA1000 have been good without error?
The error is saying that adc_data.bin is empty. Do you have adc_data.bin in PostProc folder? it should be 4096KB.
You were using script of DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua right? You pressed "setup" and config UART before running the script?

Have you tried manually step through? Refer to the user guide and just follow the blue button and press through the tabs.

    Regards,
    Michelle
  • Hi Michelle,

yes I followed the guide and do all the steps, I am running the demo (not step by step by my self). I have even tried it manually following the guide and i face the same problem. (everything is well set up).

I do have the adc_data.bin file but always empty.

  • Does adc_data.bin saved with updated time stamp each time but with size 0? or it was from some other record. It'll help if it's deleted before recording.

I also attached the switch setting of the DCA1000 just to compare.

Make sure IWR board has SOP0 and SOP1 jumpers on.

If still not working, I suggest to re-program FPGA image.

Let me know how it works. Note, I'll be on vacation for the next 3 days so response will be delayed.

    Regards,

    Michelle

  • Hi Michelle,

I have exactly the same configuration in my DCA1000, and I delete the old adc_data.bin before starting again.
I am not using an IWR board, I'm using the AWR1642BOOST board with the DCA1000 card. both jumpers (SOP1 and SOP0) are on.
Actually, I re-programmed the FPGA image before and faced the same problem.
could it be a MCR version problem ? I installed the required one already.
I have another question, can I know the data structure of the output data file then I can read it and analyze it ?
in the documentation, in the row mode data, as I have seen it is like: sequence bytes: 4 byte , byte count: 6 bytes, row data: 48 bytes.
is it correct ? once I read the 48bytes row data, how can I extract signals from it ?

    thanks in advance,
    Ahmed
  • Hi Michelle,
the problem is that in the mmWave Studio, the data that comes from DCA1000 over Ethernet is not stored in the adc_data.bin, but I am sure that it's transfered over the Ethernet connection to my laptop, that's why when it comes to the PostProc module, it's showing those errors because the adc_data.bin found empty.
    any idea ?
    thanks in advance,
    Ahmed
  • Ahmed,

Sorry for the delay. I wonder if you made any progress here. It turns out that the data saved is adc_data_RAW_0.bin, only after you press the post processing button, the adc_data.bin will be saved. If adc_data.bin failed to be stored, some thing is wrong during the ar1.PacketReorderZeroFill step.

    Regards,
    Michelle
  • Since I haven't received any response, I'm closing this ticket.
One thing to add as I found out lately, for xWR14xx with mmwave studio, make sure number of receivers to be enabled is the same as number of lanes to be enabled. Otherwise, you may not have problem during setup, the data process will not work properly.

    Regards,
    Michelle
  • Hi Michelle,

thank you. Actually I am using 4 receivers and two lanes (that's the default config). The PostProc works for me in another laptop with the same configuration. Could it be a config problem ? because I am capturing frames but the problem comes always with the PostProc step.

    Regards,

    Ahmed

  • Ahmed,

That is similar issue I came across. For x14xx, when you enable 4 RXs, the default should be having 4 lanes enabled. The reason is unlike 16xx which populate both lanes with data from one receiver, 14xx always send data with one lane per receiver. If with 4RX and 2lanes, even you passed all the steps, matlab may not know how to process data format. Mmwave studio should include a way to check to prevent it happen in the configuration step. Is there a reason you have to use 2 lanes?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Michelle
  • Michelle,

there is no reason to use 2 lanes, but what I wanted to say, that it could not be a config problem ( as It worked in another windows 10 laptop and data is stored as mentioned), in my case, the adc_data_raw_0.bin is also empty, and when I check the ethernet interface, I can see that there is a lot of received bytes, but not stored.

    thanks in advance,

    ahmed

  • Ahmed,

Sorry to see you still have the problem.
When you say you have the same config used on different PC, did you save the config using button on the left side panel of mmwave studio? If yes, could you send that to me? I understand you don't think config is issue, however, I can't help if I can't re-produce the problem here. If possible, please also save the whole output log info from both PC and send to me.

    Thanks
    Regards,
    Michelle
  • Hi Michelle,

please find attached both Config and log files (1: for the laptop in which the data is well saved on disk, 2: for laptop in which data could not be saved on disk).

I have also used Wireshark to track the issue, the DCA1000 is not sending UDP packets through Ethernet connection once start recording( for Win7 laptop) while the Win10 laptop, it is sending and I can see it.

    thanks in advance,

    Ahmed

  • Hi,

I tried your conf2.xml and it works well on my PC (win7). Then I checked the log2.txt and found the following lines:
    [15:13:04] [RadarAPI]: Status: Passed
[15:13:06] Ethernet Cable is disconnected Please check.....!!!
    [15:13:06] CaptureCardConfig_EthInit Success

It shows that DCA1000 Ethernet is not connected. Please make sure the connection is good.

    Regards,
    Michelle
  • Hi,

the DCA1000 is well connected and I can see received stream in the Etnernet interface (but not stored). I have also used Wireshark to track the packets send from each part, both parts exchange packets but when it comes to capture the signal, only the laptop is sending UDP packets, while the DCA1000 should also send UDP signal packets.

    thank you in advance,

    ahmed

  • Ahmed,

I think the issue is that DCA1000 does not connect to the port. I understand that you have the cable connected and you can even detect data on the port, but what I see is in the log2.txt, it complains about Ethernet cable. I can only conclude it's an Ethernet connection issue, not a mmwave studio issue. VPN or firewall can block DCA1000 Ethernet connection.

    Regards,
    Michelle
  • Michelle,

    thanks, still facing the issue.

    Regards,

    Ahmed

  • Ahmed,

    To summarize the issue:

DCA1000 and IWR1642BOOST setup, works for one PC, but not on the other. Correct?

Assuming the same software are installed, then the question is what is different for the two PC?
If there is an error saying no Ethernect connection, you might have a firewall or vpn blocking the data. There's firewall options under system of control panel where you can either disable fender firewall or enable the mmwave studio access through firewall.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Michelle
  • Hi Michelle,

I have solved my problem, it was a firewall issue.
    thanks again,
    Ahmed
