PGA411Q1EVM: Can PGA411EVM measure angle from sine cosine(without carrier wave)?

Part Number: PGA411Q1EVM

Hi,

As for the PGA411Q1EVM, I like to measure angle from sine cosine without carrier signal. Is it possible to do this thing?
"Sort of resolver" I am trying to connect instead of resolver. I know PGA411Q1EVM can modulate to sine, cosine signal from carrier signal(like Exciter signal). In this case, PGA411Q1EVM does not need to modulate due to already modulated as sine, cosine signals.

Thanks,
Kevin Wat

  • This is not the intended use of the device; so we cannot guarantee normal operation. However, you can try the following:

Modify the board so that IE1 is held constant at around 4V and IE2 is held at around 1V. Normally the exciter amplifier output is connected to these pins through a resistor divider.

This method should work to decode DC inputs for the sin/cos signal paths, but I am unsure how the device will react to a dynamic test like you are proposing.
  • Hi Clancy,

I understood this device cannot guarantee such operation. Beside of this statement. Is there any Enable/Disable register(or setting) to bypass Digital racking Loop? If such register exist, it might help me.

    Thanks,

  • The LPEN bit can be used to disable the tracking loop. However, if you disable the tracking loop, you will not see any angle output. I don't think that will help your application.
  • Hi Clancy,

    >The LPEN bit can be used to disable the tracking loop. However...
It's natural. It looks, not usable for me. Everything clear, please close this inquiry.
