IWR1443: IWR1443 - Raw data interface

Hi,

I am planning to use IWR1443 to design 77GHz radar system. I plan on getting the raw data from the IWR1443 and do all the processing in FPGA. There are several interfaces mentioned in IWR1443 and it seems to me that the CSI2 interface can provide raw data. However, I am not sure about this and so i have following questions

(1) Which interface, in IWR1443, should be used to acquire raw data via FPGA?

(2) Are there any design guidelines when acquiring raw data like mentioned above ?

(3) Could you comment on signal swings on the interface used to capture the raw data so that I have to take care that the FPGA can handle such swings ?

Hi Nikhil,

CSI is used to transfer raw data. Please see section 6.6 of the IWR1443 Data Sheet for more information on the CSI interface.

Hi Chloe,

Thanks for the reply. I checked that in the datasheet. What is the use of other interfaces ? It's a radar chip and so in the end I would be interested in knowing the object's distance, velocity and position. Which interface provides this information and in which format?

For the background, in my previous fmcw radar designs I received analog IQ data that I passed over A2D and then processed it in fpga and displayed the Target's distance, velocity and position.

Since IWR1443 is capable of processing, I want to know how the information of the object is presented? Which interface and which format ?

Please see section 4.2 of the IWR1443 data sheet for help with the signal purposes.

Also, I recommend taking a look at our demos on TI Resource Explorer for examples processing data on the device.

Hi Chloe,

I have looked at section 4 in datasheet but it does not answer my question. What is the use of other interfaces ? What information is passed over these interfaces ?

And also I have looked at TI resource explorer and again it does not tell me the format in which the data is presented over these interfaces. I wish to know the format and kind of data that is sent over these interfaces ? I am designing my own board here so I wish to know these things.

Hi Chloe,

Thanks for the suggestion. It says SPI for external MCU interface. What is the data that the external MCU would receive from data chip? Would this data provide the details of Target's distance, velocity and position?

I2C interface is mentioned as PMIC control. Which PMIC does this refer ?
