HDC1080EVM: HDC1080 power supply and ambient temperature relatived application questions

Hi teams

My customer has selected HDC1080 in a new project and has several application questions that need your help to figure it out.

  1. Do we have a power supply ripple requirement for HDC1080? Which kinds of performance will degradation if the voltage ripple is too large?
  2. There are other heat sources nearby HDC1080, will ambient temperature will affect the accuracy of humidity sensing accuracy?
  3. If dust or other impurities fall into the sensor, will the sensing accuracy be affected? How to prevent such a situation happen?
  4. What kinds of factors are most significant to sensing accuracy? Do you have any tips to achieve the best performance during design?

    1. There isn't a ripple specification for HDC1080. There will be some accuracy error associated with absolute supply voltage change from 3V, but this isn't specified either. 

    2. As with any sensor, it will report on its immediate environment. The sensor can't be held accountable for a system design flaw.Temperature is needed to calculate RH%, so you can expect humidity errors due to temperature errors. 

    3. Yes, contamination will affect the sensor's ability to absorb and measure moisture. The HDC1010 and HDC2010 devices are DSBGA devices which place the sensor between the PCB and the device. This shields the sensor somewhat from contamination.

    4. if your goal is to measure the room conditions (for a thermostat, for example) then it's critical to isolate the sensor from heat sources. We recommend PCB routing around the sensor; see the following app note, page 14:  http://www.ti.com/lit/an/snoa967a/snoa967a.pdf
