Is the temperature sampling conversion triggered by conversion mode or by read temperature register command or by something else?

Hi Lu,

The temperature conversion cycle time is determined by Conversion Modes and Conversion Rate Settings.

In continuous conversion mode the rate in which conversion measurements are take is set by the Conversion rate settings (7.4.2.2 Conversion Rate (CR1, CR0)).

In shutdown mode a conversion must be triggered via a one-shot command. See 7.4.2.3 Conversion Modes of the datasheet.

So, TMP104 has actually two modes: Continuous mode and One-Shot mode

The Continuous mode will sample temperature data according to the rate setting (CR1,CR0) continuously.

One-Shot mode will do a single sample and then shutdown the device.

Am I understand correctly?

Yes, that is correct. To use One-shot mode you must first be in shutdown mode. For more information see 7.4.2.3 Conversion Modes of the datasheet.
