TMP392: bigger hysteresis option

Part Number: TMP392

Hi,

My customer likes the small size of TMP392, but its hystersis is only 5 or 10. they want a more bigger hysteresis. do you have a recommendaiton with bigger hysteresis but small size like TMP392? thanks.

  • Hi Yue,

Does your customer need 2 temperature thresholds? When the SETB pin is grounded or left floating it allows for a 20C hysteresis option. However, this would only apply to the threshold set by channel A.

We have quite a few other temperature switches. In order to find the best option, please let me know a few of your customers requirements.

    1) Do they prefer either a pin programmable or resistor programmable device?

    2) Do they need a 1 channel or 2 channel temperature switch?

    3) What temperature thresholds and hysteresis settings are they looking for?

  • Sorry, I clicked "accept the answer" by mistake. let's keep discussing in this thread. thanks.

    1) Do they prefer either a pin programmable or resistor programmable device?

    either, just not involve software

    2) Do they need a 1 channel or 2 channel temperature switch?

actually, they just need one channel, but tmp392 has smaller size. they prefer small size.

    3) What temperature thresholds and hysteresis settings are they looking for?

70° thresholds. the orignial temperature braker has a 30° hysteresis. they think 10° is a bit small.

  • Yue,

Thanks for sharing your customers requirements. Unfortunately, a 30°C hysteresis setting is not configurable on most of our temperature switches. Usually we see 10°C or 20°C hysteresis is enough for most applications. I suggest revisiting this requirement with your customer.

Here are the best three options I can find:

    1) As mentioned above, using TMP392 setting the Channel A threshold to 70°C and grounding the SETB pin to achieve a 20°C hysteresis setting.

    2) TMP303 - This temperature switch is factory programmable, you can save more space by not needing the extra resistors that are required for the TMP392. The orderable TMP303E gives you two temperature thresholds, 0°C and 70°C. The limitation here is that the hysteresis can be set to at highest 10°C.

    3) TMP708 - This temperature switch is also resistor programmable and has a larger size than the others. However, it does offer a 70°C threshold and 30°C hysteresis setting.

    Hopefully these recommendations help.

    Thanks,

    Jalen
