TMCS1100: Do we have spec about how large current surge the device can handle?

Part Number: TMCS1100

Hi,

my customer's energy storage system need isolated current sensing, the current rating is less than 50A.

But they will face up to 1000A current surge which last about tens of us. They need the device can withstand such high current pulse.

It seems that neither Allegro part nor our part has such parameter.

  • Hello Howard,

We do not have a spec, because the ability to survive large current surge depends on the thermal environment which can change from system to system. However, in the preliminary datasheet in section 10.1.2.2 we do have a curve for safe operating area for a single-pulse event. Currently our data stops at 1 ms and shows a limit of around 300 A. Our thermal models predict near 1000 A for 10s of µs, but we are still improving our test setup to be able to measure this condition.

More data is being collected now and will be ready by RTM.

    Best regards,
