OPT3007: LSB size - Lux and uW/cm2

Part Number: OPT3007

Hi,

I am looking into the datasheet of OPT3007 and it specifies LSB size with lux. And there are also other vendors specifying ambient light sensor LSB sensitivity with uW/m2. Conversion between this two unit required area input to the formula. What's the equation for OPT3007 to converter lux to uW/cm2?

I believe this info could help to speed up assessment for a lot of engineers.

Best Regards,

Peiheng

  • Hi Peiheng,

    What is the application/use-case here?

I want to note that lux correlates with brightness as seen by the human eye over all light sources whereas W/area does not. This mean that 2 different light sources with the same brightness as seen by the human eye (same lux) can have very different uW/m^2 measurements. If a sensor specs uW/m^2 likely it does not have good human eye matching. There is a conversion but it requires knowing the spectral profile of light and this will only be valid for the specific light source profile.

We are releasing a video series covering these topics this week so I am including links to a pre-release below. This is a 5 video series, but videos 3 and 4 are most relevant to your question. Video 4 covers the conversion. Please let me know any feedback you have on the videos as that will be helpful for us.
