CCS/AWR1642BOOST: USRR application: Meaning/Unit of peak value readings

Dear TI-community,

currently we are using the ultra short range reference application of the AWR1642-BOOST. Detected points will be packed in TLVs, consisting of the information for x, y, speed and the peakValue.

Unfortunately, we can not find the unit of the peakValue. Are we right, that the peak value represents the received signal gain at the antenna? If so, does it represents the reliablity of a detected point?

Hi,

Yes, the higher the value of the peak the higher the energy of the detected point.

The peaks are max in the Range Doppler Heatmap

The range doppler heatmap is obtained by averaging the energy of the doppler FFT.

Hello Steven,

You need to refer the GUI code to find out unit conversion.

\labs\lab0002_short_range_radar\gui\read_file_and_plot_object_location.m :

detObj.doppler = (bytes(1,:)+bytes(2,:)*256);
detObj.peakVal = bytes(3,:)+bytes(4,:)*256; %peak value (16-bit=> so constructed from 2 bytes)

Sorry, I think, that I have described my question in a wrong way.

I'm interested in the physical unit of the peak value, e.g. if it's displayed in [Watt], [dB], [SNR] .. ?
