Hi,
Could you please tell me that reason why the measurement range between 0.25ns and 8ms can be obtained with the combined operation?
Additionally, please tell us the detailed configuration procedure as well.
Best regards,
Kato

Kato,
Measuring TOF from 0.25 ns to 12 ns requires operating in mode 2 (section 7.4.2.2) where longer durations require mode 1 (section 7.4.2.1). Combined operation is meant to imply that the system is capable of configuring both modes for a complete sensing range.
For details regarding how to configure TDC7201 to measure down to TOF durations of 0.25 ns please refer to the following application note:

Hi Scott-san,
Thank you for the information.
I would like to confirm just in case, but is the measurement mode1 used in the combined operation which is mentioned in the application note?
Best regards,
Kato
Kato-san,
The application note does detail the use of combined operation and how to setup each TDC register set in order to achieve this function. It also shows the composite data along with the impact from averaging to minimize error.
Thanks,
Scott
Hi Scott-san,
Thank you for your reply.
It seems that the measurement mode1 is set to both of TDC1 and TDC2 if seeing the screenshots in the application note.
So, is my understanding correct?
Best regards,
Kato
Kato,
For combined measurement mode, START1 and START2 are connected together, and based on figures 9 and 10 from the app note (which show the register settings for each TDC) both TDC1 and TDC2 are configured to Mode1.
Thank you,
Scott
