AWR1642: How to modify the range for IWR1642

For IWR1642, the maximum range is determined as 80m. I loaded the Driver vital signs image into the ti mmwave radar and got the maximum range to be around 105cm.

In the below URL, under 'Configuring the GUI' section, it was mentioned that the max range is only 0.7m.

Can someone please tell me how to modify the range to its maximum range while using the Driver vital signs application.

Hi Ramya,

If you increase the range beyond some range then the functionality of this application may not work, as this application is meant for ultra short range scenario.

Although you can find different sets of chirp configuration here or you can refer mmw demo/Visualizer or other TI-Rex applications.

In which document should i be modifying the chirp parameters, to increase the maximum range ?

Hi Ramya,

Configuration are given in xwr1642_profile_VitalSigns_20fps_Back.cfg file under profiles directory to detect the vital sign at this distance. Note that this configuration is fine tuned to get the right performance with this application, for the different range I'm not sure if just changing the range related parameters are enough to get the same performance.

There are multiple factors to get the higher range, as frequency slope, ADC sampling rate, no. of chirps, chirp duration etc. Please refer Programming Chirp Parameters in TI Radar Devices (Rev. *) (Edit#1) (section 2.1) And these all parameters you can control from CLI command 'profileCfg'. (refer mmwave SDK User guide)
