TMUX131: TMUX131

Part Number: TMUX131

Tool/software:

Hello : I am planning to use TMUX131 to feed 156.25Mhz (differential LVDS clock) from either XO or Clock IC  to reference pin one of the SOC.

The design block diagram as shown below .

I would like to know

1) The LVDS differential signal clock switching above scheme using TMUX 131 is acceptable ?

2) The clock switching is glitch free using analog Mux TMUX131  ?

3) Is there any evaluation Board for TMUX 131 is available ?

thanks

Shamanth

  • Hi Shamanth,

    1. Yes the TMUX131 is acceptable for this application. Checkout this FAQ to learn why.

2.The TMUX131 is a passive analog switch that simply passes signal from input to output with  while minimizing signal distortion.

Because of the  6.5Ghz bandwidth of the multiplexer your systems 156.25Mhz should not have  distortion.

If you would like further help can you tell more about the "glitch free" you are asking for?

3.There is currently no evaluation board for the TMUX131.

    Regards,

    Kameron

    3) Is there general-purpose PCB footprint available to mount these IC to evaluation from TI ?

    thanks

  • Hi Shamanth,

Kameron's answer would still be the same here on the glitching. The mux is a passive mux, where the glitch you're referring to is something associated with active muxes. So you wouldn't see it. The mux will simply the signal on the input to the output but won't redrive. There may be some slight distortion from the RC time constant of the switch but given how large the bandwidth of the switch is vs the actual frequency being used, as Kameron mentioned, you shouldn't see much, if any, distortion.

Unfortunately there isn't currently an evaluation board we have for that footprint. We used to have a USB EVM that could fit the footprint but it's been obsoleted. That being said, I am currently in the process of releasing a generic board specifically for this. It will be on TI.com likely in January 2025

    Thanks,
    Rami

Waiting for the generic board to evaluate the part before putting into the final design.
