TS5A22362: question about NC pin operation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5A22362, TS5A22364, TS3A227E

Hello,

I'm posting this for a local customer:

"Quick question  on this analog switch TS5A22362 -

I was looking for whether the NC connection on this analog switch stays ‘connected’ / on  when power is removed or not…. I didn’t find it on the data sheet….   I’d rather use this than a relay…."

Please advise.

Thanks,

Tom

  • Tom,

When device is powered down, I expect NC to be connected to COM... however, in powered OFF state, the digital is not defined to say for sure that a particular input is connected to COM.

What is the application that you are looking for a relay replacement? We are looking to build a business case for going after relays.

What kind of a test would we need to conduct with the switched powered down to win the business?

    Thank you,
    Adam
  • it is audio switching in a public safety comm center, and yes, basically the choice is relays or analog switches.  WOuld much rather use solid state for several reasons. It is importatnt that if power is lost to the audio switch equipment, a default set of audio paths is operational/ stays connected.

So the test would be to set up the analog switch and verify that the NC connections operates [ some resistance higher than normal on resistance would be tolerable], and the NO connection does not come through / 'sum' into the signal path.

  • Tom,

The TS5A22362 will not work for your application since the device needs to be powered to pass a signal.

The TS5A22364 has a shunt resistor that will discharge any capacitance at the NC or NO terminals when they are unconnected to COM.  This reduces audible click-and-pop sounds that occur when switching between audio sources.  This shunt resistor provides a path through ground when the IC is not powered but doesn't pass to COM.

The TS3A227E is another audio jack switch that may be an option Id have to look into since it has separated grounds for FM support that might be able to be used as a signal path when the device is powered down.  Let me know what you think about that device.

    Thank you,

    Adam
