Switch for USB Type-C Audio MIC and GND

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3A227E, TS3A225E, TS3A226AE, TS3A26746E

In the blog, USB Type-C audio: Do I need to buy a new pair of headphones?,  the crosspoint switch TS3A26746E is mentioned as an alternative to the TS3A226AE which is used in the reference design TIDA-00565, but  I am  wondering how this could work.  How would we be able to detect the position of MIC/GND in order to make the correct crosspoint selection?

Thanks,

Adam

  • Adam,

The TS3A226AE, TS3A225E, and TS3A227E audio jack switches all have automatic MIC/GND detection and switching.  You can see this posts and selfie stick app note for more information on how the automatic detection and switching works inside these three devices.

Detecting Selfie Sticks Using TI Aduio Jack Switches TS3A227E and TS3A225E

The TS3A26746E is also an audio jack cross point switch for MIC/GND signals but it does have the automatic detection feature like the devices above.  This device is the smaller low cost option for cross point MIC/GND switching when the detection feature is integrated in the audio codec.  If your codec does not have the MIC/GND detection capability you will need to use one of the TS3A226AE, TS3A225E, or TS3A227E to do the detection and switching.

    Thank you,

    Adam
