SN74LVC1G3157: Using analog switch as 20mA power mux

Genius 16045 points
Part Number: SN74LVC1G3157
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5A3160,

Hello,

I'm looking for a power mux device for 1.8V and 3.3V with around 20mA.
TI's power mux device basically doesn't support low voltage like 1.8V.

Is there any issue to use analog mux like SN74LVC1G3157 or TS5A3160 etc as 20mA power mux?

Regards,
Oba

  • Oba,

You can use a signal switch for a power signal as long as the current rating is observed.

You would also like to select a signal switch with low on-state resistance and break before make feature to ensure you don't have issues connecting the two power sources together.

Also, the powered off protection feature could be useful which ensures the signal path is high impedance event if Vcc to the switch is not present.  This can help with power sequencing.

I sorted the ti.com switch search tool for 1-channel, 2:1, break before make, and then sorted on on state resistance.  TS5A3160 looks like a good balance of performance and price for your application.

    Thank you,

    Adam
