TS5A3159: Can TS5A3159 work as high side switch for LED?

Part Number: TS5A3159

Hello,

in my low power design I use this circuit - standard high side switch - for blinking with high powerLED:

But in new generation of the product I need to save some space for additional communication circuit. Is it possible to use TS5A3159 as highside switch (or another one in SOT23)?

LED current for new design is 150mA.

Two possible scenarios:

1: Blinking sequence: 20Hz for 4 seconds. Hard to say how many sequnces per day, but let's say 200.

2: LED on for 4 seconds, than off. 200 times per day.

Are there any risks on TS5A3159 lifetime?

Thank you,

Jan

  • Hi Jan,

What is the voltage level required for your application - I can see you are using 3.3V supply

You would also like to select a signal switch with before make feature to ensure you don't have issues connecting and disconnecting LED. Also, the powered off protection feature could be useful which ensures the signal path is high impedance event if Vcc to the switch is not present.  This can help with power sequencing. See details in Simplify power sequencing with powered-off protection

Your current requirement is 150mA  - The TS5A3159  should work with this current and has break-before-make feature. You can look at the  TS5A3160 if you also need powered-off protection.

I sorted the ti.com switch search tool for 1-channel, 2:1, break before make, powered-off protection and sorted on Max Continuous current.
