TS3V713EL: Could TS3V713EL supports full HD(1920x1080) bandwidth?

Part Number: TS3V713EL

Hello expert,

Do we have solution could support full HD(1920x1080) VGA mux? TS3V713EL or newer solution? Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Ann Lien

  • Hi Ann,

    This part can handle up to 1.3GHz during normal operation at a 3.3V supply voltage.  Depending on refresh rate and time spent on blanking time + other overhead. Then you can calculate the bandwidth needed:

    BW_req = (1920 x 1080 x Refresh_Rate)/ (1 - percent_time_blanking_+_overhead)

    For a refresh rate of 60Hz and 10% of the time blanking/overhead (this value can vary and depends on the system itself and what kind of display is being driven). The required bandwidth would be:

    (1920 x 1080 x 60)/(1-0.1) = 138.24MHz  - No problem passing signal with the TS3V713EL

    Even at a very fast refresh rate of 120Hz and an unrealistic overhead  percentage of 50% the required bandwidth would be:

    (1920 x 1080 x 120) (1 - 0.5) = 497.67MHz - which could still be passed by the TS3V713EL.

    So I don't see much concern using this part as a VGA switch for HD video, and it provides a good solution for this type of application.

    However extra output capacitance - due to the trace and/or cable as well as other IC's on the line - can degrade the bandwidth - the switch itself can work in most HD applications but extra capacitance on either side of the I/O can degrade total system bandwidth but there is a large amount of margin in most HD applications between the required bandwidth and the ideal switch bandwidth - so I don't see this being a concern in the majority of applications but it is something to be aware of.

    If you have any other questions please let me know!
