SN74CBT3125C: Mux for SPI communication

Part Number: SN74CBT3125C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX1511, TMUX1574,

Hi,

I am looking for a smaller SPI level shift solution. The application include a "motor driver” that communicates with “host controller”. SPI voltage for driver is 3.3V while SPI voltage for host controller is 3.3V or 5V. Since the system power is turned on independently, some protection is required even when host controller is power-on and driver is power-off and vice versa.

I looked at various options and I see that one of the devices SN74CBT3125C can support Powered off protection at 5V I/O Voltage. Both TMUX1511 as well as TMUX1574 can support Powered off up to 3.6V.

Can you guys confirm if CBT3125 is the right part that can support Powered off at 5V?

Thanks

Saminah

  • Saminah,

For sure, while it doesn't explicitly state "Powered off protection", the SN74CBT3125C will offer the powered off protection you want (Up to 5.5V!). To check if a certain device has powered off protection, check the datasheet for the powered-off leakage specifications with the test conditions including VDD = 0V. I've highlighted this in the SN74CBT3125C datasheet below.

For more information and even alternative devices that offer this powered-off protection take a look at this helpful app note

    Hope this helps,
    Rami
