TS3L500: Other multiplexer required for 1.2 Gbps signaling

Part Number: TS3L500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5MP646

Hi TI,

We have used TL3S500AE which does '10/100/1000 Base-T Signal Switching',but we have a requirement in which signal (optical fibre application) speed goes upto 1.2 Gbps.

Please suggest any  MULTIPLEXER to mux this signals.

Thanks.

  • Dhiraj,

Many times data rates are expressed as total throughput, but when selecting a switch you need to look at the bandwidth/datarates on a per channel basis and modulation scheme.  You can see that 1000Base-T total throughput is 1000 Mbps but it is modulation scheme can achieve 4 bits per Hz and there are 4 lanes of data.  This means that the per channel/modulation scheme bandwidth of the 1000Base-T is 62.5 MHz.  62.5MHz x 4 bits per cycle(Hz) x 4 channels/lanes = 1GHz

Can you confirm the data rate you need per channel?

The TS3L500E device can support 950MHz per channel.  Please see the switches and mutliplexers e2e forum FAQ on max datarate for a signal switch for more information.

If you need to support 1.2Gbps on each channel then you will need to find a signal switch with > 1.8 GHz.  The TS5MP646 could be an option.

    Thank you,

    Adam
