CCS/AM5716: AM5716: Is it possible to do a "trace" of AM57xx with TI items ?: From CCS side

Part Number: AM5716
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSEMU560V2STM-U, TMDSEMUPROTRACE, , TMDXICE110, TMDXIDK5718, AM5718

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello,

Could you please tell us what kind of "traces" are possible for AM5716 with TMDSEMU560V2STM-U or TMDSEMUPROTRACE ?

I started this discussion in the processor forum: e2e.ti.com/.../2861254

There I was advised to ask the same question to this forum.

Q.
From debugger side, I think both TMDSEMU560V2STM-U and TMDSEMUPROTRACE supports, both ETB and STM. Is it correct?
My point would be, whether the debuggers support the target IC AM5716.

Q.
SPRUHM7B.pdf - chapter1.3 tells three trace types.
I think both TMDSEMU560V2STM-U and TMDSEMUPROTRACE supports all the three trace types, (Steandard, Event, System) for AM57xx. Is it correct?

Or, (Standard and Event) trace types are not supported by TMDSEMU560V2STM-U ?   (SPRUHM7B.pdf - chapter 1.5)

  • Hi,

I will point you to the short video below that talks about all different types of Trace and its features. Skip to 8:45 for a few tables that summarize the features I discuss below.
    www.youtube.com/watch

    Answering your questions:
    1. ETB and STM are not mutually exclusive features. Any JTAG Debug Probe from TI supports both Core and Event/System Trace (STM) funneled through the ETB. The two Debug Probes you mentioned also support Event/System Trace (STM) via external hardware (also called Pin Trace).

    2. As I mentioned before, any JTAG Debug Probe supports all types of traces, provided they are funneled through the ETB, including the models you mentioned. The two models you mentioend also support Pin Trace.

    Hope this helps,
    Rafael
  • Desouza,

Thank you for your instructions. I watched the youtube.
And for practice I could get the PC trace on TMDXICE110 and XDS200.

    Q1-1.
By the way, the same PC trace is also available for TMDXIDK5718 ?
I could not find "AM57" words in the TMDSEMUPROTRACE page.

  • Hideaki-san,

Please apologize for the delay; I am glad you are able to successfully collect Trace information.

Also thank you for pointing out the missing detail on our product page. I will get it fixed as soon as possible.

Answering your question, the AM5718 device is capable of full Trace, but unfortunately the TMDXIDK5718 board does not have all the System and Core Pin Trace routed to the external JTAG connector. You can only do Trace using the internal ETB.

    Regards,
    Rafael
