First time through using CCS 5.2 following the first example in Chapter 1 of "MSP430 Microcontrollers Essentials 2nd Edition" from the MSP430 Teaching ROM to blink an LED. First step is to create a project -- when clicking "Finish" I get "Project cannot be 'null', and must be a valid CCS project." See screen shot attached. I cannot get past this point, even when opening one of the basic examples. Any advice on how to proceed? Thanks
Mike
Hi Michael,
can you please provide a few further details.
- what exact CCS version?
- does this happen with every workspace? Every target?
- did you use any directories with accented/special characters or spaces?
- what OS are you using?
- do you get any error logs?
- did you install only MSP430 support?
Best Regards,
Lisa Taubensee
Lisa,
From your question:
- did you use any directories with accented/special characters or spaces?
The installation created the default workspace in "My Documents" which has a space. I created a new folder in a directory without a space in the path, and it appears to have fixed the problem. I can't help but wonder how many other newbies had the same problem, since this problem occurred because I followed the defaults on the Windows installation...I don't recall any warnings, which might be a nice addition for the next go with updating the software.
Thanks very much for your help!
Mike
Actually, come to think of it, the software installation did not put the workspace folder under "My Documents" It was me--I wanted the folder to be automatically backed up with the rest of the stuff in "My Documents." But I still think a warning would be nice, especially if the installation program could recognize invalid path names.
Mike
Hi Michael,
so did removing it from that directory get you up and running?
Best Regards,
Lisa
Hi Michael,
No problem at all. Very glad to hear and all the best with development.
