CCS5 DONGLE VS FLOATING LICENSE

We have a customer asking if CCS can be licensed with a dongle rather than a MAC address.  THe customer wants to use CCS on different computers, but not simultaneously.  Everything I have read indicates that dongles are not supported.  I want to confirm this before getting back to the customer.

  • Hi John,

that I am aware of that is not supported.  Some options might be

    - the node locked license can be registered to 2 MAC addresses

    - note that it is actual debug requiring a license.  In other words editing and writing can be done without a license

    - note that depending on the hardware, they may be able to use one of the two free license types (ie ccs is free to use with the xds100 for example)

    - if it is an option for them and they have connectivity ... another option although not the easiest perhaps would be a singe seat floating license

Please let us know whether these help

    Best Regards,

  • John,

Maybe someone else had done it, but I personally don't know if this is possible. However, would be a possibility to use a Wi-Fi USB adapter and use its MAC address to license CCS? I recall that some even allowed disabling the radio but still kept the MAC address visible to the Operating system (if radio waves are a problem at the lab).

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the options.  It is helpful to have full functionality at the site one is working.  This way you are not limited in developing more code or debugging a problem.

  • Hi Rafael,

The USB WiFi adapter seems like a good idea.  It would be great if we knew it worked.

  • Hi Rafael

Do we have any documentation to support this for the customer?

  • Have there been any reports of success using the MAC address from a USB connected device?
