Tool/software: Code Composer Studio
I have tried to find how to force SBW JTAG mode but I cannot find it. I have read a post in the past that indicates it is automatic. Well it is not working. I am using the MSP-FET430UIF pod and it will not connect to the target that is wired for SBW. I can use Elptronics Lite FET Pro430 version 3.3 and it works fine. It would be nice to be able to debug with CCS.
Also very annoying that FET 430-Pro and CCS are always wanting to update the firmware in the POD.
A little help please.
Greg,
The mode is supposed to be automatically configured.
I may need to loop in an MSP430 expert but I did find a thread that had instructions on how you can expose the options for JTAG/SBW mode in an older version of CCS. The same may work here:

Yes.
I solved it by upgrading to 9.x.
However, I think the real problem is our IT. They have implemented a lock down of USB for the purpose of limiting the circumstances under which USB devices are allowed to operate and I think this is interfering with the USB FET tool. Upgrading to CCS 9.x seems to have gotten around the limitation for now.
