CCS/MSP-EXP432P401R: Unable to launch TI Cloud Agent from GUI Composer or CCS Cloud

Part Number: MSP-EXP432P401R

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am attempting GUI Composer ADC Application example, but I am unable to connect to Launchpad from GUI Composer in Chrome. I attempted on CCS Cloud (as additional test of launching TI Cloud Agent) to flash device and received the same error.  The error I get is:

Could not launch TI Cloud Agent: Failed to start TICloudAgent: Specified native messaging host not found.. Please perform the actions listed below and try your operation again.

It prompts me to download and install TI Cloud Agent Application, but I have already done this, multiple times.

I have exported the GUI Composer project as Stand-Alone App and CCS Desktop View, and both of those work. It only fails from the browser.

Running on Windows 10, using Chrome. I've attempted on Firefox as well, but also failed there. I enabled incognito option in TICloudAgent extension and attempted in Incognito window, but still fails. I enabled logging in ticloudagent.bat file, but no log file is created (I'm assuming it never gets that far since it says unable to launch). I disabled firewall, but still failed. I've tried on two different PCs, same issue on both. Any ideas on what else I can try?

  • Hi Chris,

Did you install ticloudagent with elevated administrator privileges from the same account you are trying to run GUI Composer from?

    Thanks

  • Hello Ki-

Yes. I only have the single account on this machine other than Administrator, and my account was used (with elevated privileges). During installation it by default prompts for installation to C:\Users\Administrator. I attempted installing it to C:\Users\Administrator and C:\Users\myUserName, but neither worked with GUI Composer in browser.

  • Ok, you will want to have it installed in the folder for your user account. I'll need to escalate this issue to the cloud agent experts. I'll keep you posted of any updates as I get them.

    Thanks

  • Hi Chris,

That error mostly occurs when you are running from an account (usually a standard user account) that did not install the ti cloud agent (usually an administrator account). This is a common scenario when places where only an IT administrator can install software on a PC.

    However you stated that:

Yes. I only have the single account on this machine other than Administrator, and my account was used (with elevated privileges).

It sounds like you installed the TI Cloud Agent from your user account (with elevated permissions) and also trying to run from your user account. But then the next comment confused me:

During installation it by default prompts for installation to C:\Users\Administrator.

If installing from your user account, I'm not sure why it is defaulting to the Administrator account. It should default to your user account.

Can you confirm that you installed and are running all from the same exact account?

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki-

Perhaps elevated privileges isn't the appropriate description. This is an institute laptop, and I log in with my authenticated user account (which does not have administrative privileges). If I run a program which requires admin privileges, it will prompt me for an admin login. I use a local administrator account for that. So, I believe from the perspective of the installer program, it is being run by the administrator account. I'm not able to add my authenticated user account to the Administrators group. Is there a resolution for that scenario?

    thanks

  • Ah ok, that makes sense now. When I was referring to running with elevated admin privileges, I was referring to the option where you can right-click on the exe and select the option "Run as administrator". What you are doing looks like you are logging in as an admin and running from a separate administrator account. That will not work for the reason mentioned in the post below:

The post above does suggest a registry hack workaround that you can try, but it is an unsupported configuration.

We are looking to resolve this restriction in the future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Okay, this works for me as a workaround. I hope a more permanent resolution will be provided, though. I want to have CCS Cloud as an option for my students. They also have an institute laptop, and I do not want to request that they edit their registry.

  • Yes, understood. We are evaluating some potential solutions for this. The scenario that is most commonly impacted by this seems to be in a University lab environment where CCS Cloud is used for instruction and the standard user accounts set up for the students do not have the ability to run with elevated admin rights. It is this feedback we have received in the past that has spurred us to look at removing this limitation.

    Thanks
