TIDA-00120: Modify Solar Panel to a Voltage Buck Regulator with current controlled to the battery?

Part Number: TIDA-00120

Hi E2E,

Good day.

We have a customer who wants to customize the TIDA-00120 (Solar MPPT Charge Controller Reference Design). He is asking if he can connect a 24V battery instead of a Solar Panel. He thinks that the MPPT algorithm should be changed to a Closed loop Current Voltage Controller. He wants to modify the MPPT algorithm to be a closed loop Voltage Buck Regulator with current controlled to the battery. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Art,

The circuit is a buck converter in essence. So it can be operated with the control algorithm decided by the firmware. However, we may not have all the protection circuits needed to connect to a battery on the PV side.
