TIDA-01605: During boost converter operation D5 has blown, what would be the reason?

Part Number: TIDA-01605

Hello All,

I am developing a de-rated prototype of boost converter. For which I have used 4000uF capacitor, 0.5mH input inductor and 30V DC supply with 0.5 duty ratio. I connected the load through a MCB. When I switch on the MCB, a chattering occurs in gate driver circuit and D5 has blown. What would be the possible reason for this?

  • Hi Utsav,

What is your output voltage? How do you connect the driver output to the converter MOSFET? Normally for Boost converter the high side MOSFET is a P-FET. Are you using N-FET or P-FET? The node needs to pay attention is D2 which is a high voltage switching node. Also are the two channels both isolated or one is isolated?
