TIDA-010030: Customize TIDA-010030 design parameters.

Part Number: TIDA-010030
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940, BQ34Z100, BQ34Z100-G1

Hello forum,

I am reviewing TIDA-010030 design. I want to customize this design parameters for me. Want to increase current ratings for example IDSCH: 80 ~90 A. For this value I made some calculations for current thresholds. There are some threshold values in below for bq76940 and bq34z100.

CCrange: -+200 mV     CCfull :-+270 mV    OCDrange: 8~100 mV     SCDrange: 22~200 mV    Vsr(bq34z100) : -+125 mV

One of the most important thing is that can I find a sense resistor in market. For this limitations I decided to choose 1m ohm equivelent sense resistor value (three 3R or two 2R in parallel).And I assign a value for design marjin as %10. All of values above will decrease %10 in below calculations.

**For SCD calculation -> I-SCDmax = VSCD * Rsense = 180m * 1m = 180A

**For OCD calculation -> I-OCDmax = VOCD * Rsense = 90m * 1m = 90A

**For CCrange control -> I took I-DSCmax = 80A -> -> -> V-CCSR = I-DSCmax * Rsense = 80 * 1m = 80 mV

There is no problem for now as it seems. My question is in below actually.

**For bq34z100  Vsr range control which is the right selection? -> Vsr(bq34z100) / I-SCDmax  or  Vsr(bq34z100) / I-OCDmax

  • Hi Emre,

    Regarding BQ34Z100-G1 current measurement, it is only used to calculate capacity related parameters (state of charge, remaining capacity, etc.) You will need to justify what current level is required to be measured by bq34z100-g1 and check if 1m ohm is good enough.

    Another thing is that you need to consider the power consumption of Rsense, if using OCDmax, there will be ~8W power consumption, which is very large. So with very large discharge current, it is highly recommended to choose smaller Rsense. But the Rsense can't be too small to impact the current sensing accuracy for both bq76940 and bq34z100-g1.

  • Hi Ryan,

    You wanna say that 1m ohm resistor value can work up to 125A current value for bq34z100 without problem. This is clear already. But I wanted to ask which current value will we choose for this callculation. My idea is I-DSCmax. But in your "tidueg7b ref design note" it is given as I-OCDmax.

    Other thing is yes I have large power consumption. But my current is too high and also there is no sense resistor in market for under this value. I dont want to add amplifier between Resistor  and chip.

  • Hi Emre,

    I think it depends on whether OCD max will impact soc. If yes, it will be better to make sure bq34z100-g1 knows the OCD max value.
