TIDA-050031: Adding 180s backup time

Part Number: TIDA-050031

Hello,

I want to add backup time to the TIDA-050031 reference design.

When the main battery drops below 2V, backup should run for a maximum of 180 seconds. Can I do this by adding a 555 timer or what is the alternative solution?

Thanks.

  • Hi Sacid,

I'm a little confused about your question.

How did you know that the backup time can be a maximum of 180 seconds? Did you test it on your battery system?

What is the timer used for? Is it used to shut down the discharge circuit?

    Regards

    Fergus

  • Hello Fergus,

Let me explain the system clearly.

I use MCU, LTE module and GPS module in main circuit. Under normal conditions, these modules are powered by the main battery.

When I turn off the main battery, the backup battery consumes all its power. I dont want this. I want to control the discharge time.

Can I control the discharge time with a timer or do you have a different solution?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Sacid,

You could use a signal connected to the Enable pin of the device to Enable or disenable the device.

The signal can be generated by 555 timer or other devices.

We don't have special demands on the EN signal except its voltage.

Please be noted that even the device is disabled, there will be an output voltage of 2V(almost same as input), as a result of the device's body diode of the upper MOS still on.

    Regards

    Fergus
