TIDA-010047: Request for Design Support for Power Supply Specification about TIDA-010047 Reference Design

Part Number: TIDA-010047

Tool/software:

Dear Texas Instruments Team,

We are currently working on a project that requires a reliable and efficient power supply unit, and we are seeking design support from Texas Instruments to ensure optimal performance.

Below are the specifications for the power supply we are designing:

  1. Input Voltage (Vin) Nominal: 230Vac/50Hz
  2. Input Voltage Range: 85-265Vac/50Hz
  3. Output Voltage at No Load: 24±0.5V
  4. Output Power: 144W
  5. Ripple + Noise: <1%
  6. Efficiency: >85%
  7. Line/Load Regulation: <1%
  8. Output Short Circuit Protection

In our initial research, we came across the TIDA-010047 reference design. We would like to know if this reference design is suitable for our project specifications mentioned above. Specifically, we are interested in understanding how well this design meets our requirements and if any modifications are needed to align it with our desired performance criteria.

we would appreciate your assistance in the following areas:

  • Recommendations for any alternative AC/DC converter ICs or modules if TIDA-010047 is not fully suitable.
  • Relevant reference designs or application notes that can guide us in achieving the specified power supply characteristics.
  • Design tools or software that can aid in the development process.
  • Any additional components or considerations to ensure high efficiency and reliability.

Your expertise and guidance will be invaluable to us as we work to develop a robust solution. We are open to any suggestions or recommendations you may have.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,

Mohd Sahid

  • Hi Mohd,

This is a good reference for you to use. The output was designed for a max of 20V, so changes will be need to made there. Probably a new transformer.

It is best to use Power Stage Designer to help with the calculations.

    Thanks,

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

Thank you for your feedback on the TIDA-010047 reference design. I appreciate your insights.

Based on your suggestions, I understand that the output of the TIDA-010047 was designed for a maximum of 20V, and modifications will be required to achieve our desired 24V output. We will look into selecting a suitable new transformer for this adjustment.

Additionally, I will use Power Stage Designer to assist with the necessary calculations. However, I noticed that the Active Clamp Flyback (ACF) topology design is not available in Power Stage Designer. If you have any guidance or resources on how to work around this limitation, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for your support. I will reach out to Texas Instruments for further assistance on these points and to ensure we meet our project specifications.

    Best regards,

    Mohd Sahid
