I am designing a power supply using TPS54310 with the following specifications.

Vin (min) = 4.5V

Vin (max) = 5.5V

Vout = 1.875V

Iout = 0.8A

When I entered the above parameters, WeBench did not display TPS54310 in the list of recommended parts. I went on to investigate why not. It generated the following result (image attached). It says the “voltage is out of limit”. You can clearly observe that the voltage is in range. In fact I have implemented TPS54310 to generate the required supply too. I just wanted to check if I had the best balance of components. Is this is bug or am I interpreting something incorrectly?

Rohit,

I was unable to reproduce the problem that you reported with TPS54310.

By choosing the entries that you provided above, WEBENCH (R) Power Tool found TPS54310 as one of multiple solutions for those specifications. I attach a screen shot showing this.

Hi Rohit,

This is a very strange anomaly. We are not able to produce it today but you definitely have a screenshot of the error. We apologize for the problem and we will see if we can locate the issue.

We did have a problem with the SwitcherPro services last night and this is one of the parts we use the services for. Perhaps it was disabled when you ran your design parameters.

A question I have for you is why would you use this part in this design space? If you enter these values in the WEBENCH® Visualizer you get 140 design alternatives besides this device.

In the WEBENCH Visualizer above, at least 43 of those alternatives are smaller footprint, higher efficiency, and lower cost than this older device.

A balanced solution would be the LM20134 at $2.45/1K, at

I tried the search again today and WEBENCH (R) has provided TPS54310 as a valid device for the application for me too. I assume it was a freak anomaly. I think Phillip's explanation might be correct. Maybe the anomaly was caused by SwitcherPro services being temporarily unavailable. Either ways, I guess I can say that my query is solved. Thanks for taking the time to help out.
