TPS53353/Calculated Max Temp

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53353
Hi,

Please tell me about a simulation result of TPS53353 using  SwitcherPro.
The attached file is a simulation result of customer.
Could you tell me the how to decide of θja used by SwicherPro?

The θja is calculated with 14.62℃/W when I read the following past contribution.
63℃ = 2.6 * Θja + 25
 Θja≒14.62
However,θja used in a TPS53353 data sheet is 27.2 ℃/W.

====================

This is how SwitcherProcalculates the temperature of the IC.
Temp. (C) = TotalLoss * Θja + 25
where:
TotalLoss = Loss(high FET + low FET + controller)
Θja is Junction-to-ambient thermal resistance

  • Yusuke-San,

    We will investigate this and let you know.

    Thanks,

  • Yusuke-san,

    Thanks for bringing this issue up. There is a bug in the temperature estimation.

    The total loss  for the converter U1 (2.6W) is including the high-side FET, low-side FET and the quiescent current losses. However, when estimating the temperature, only the max loss of these three is considered. In your case, it is the High side FET with about 1.4W loss and a theta-ja of 27.2C/W. With an ambient temperature of 25C, Tj is estimated to be 67C.

    However, in reality, you should take in 2.6W into account when calculating the Tj = 25C + 2.7W*27.2C/W ~ 96C instead of today's 67C.

    Regards,
