PMP4311: Use Flyback in PMP4311 to supply external device

Part Number: PMP4311

Hi,

I want to create an interleaved PFC stage 3kW following the topology of the PM4311. I see that a flyback topology provides +12V of power supply. The flyback is insulated, but the entire project is not insulated (grounds are common). Can I use the +12V of the flyback to supply external devices like display? I need an insulated  +12V and I don't want to create another supply or change something in the topology.

Do you have any suggestion?

thank you and best regards,

Andrea C.

  • Hi Andrea,

You made a good point. The 13V output on the secondary of the flyback actually are supplied to several voltage rails on the primary side (where PFC and UCC28070 are located). If you would like to use the 13V as an isolated output, then you will need to supply the primary biases which the 13V is currently supplying in the schematic with the auxiliary winding of the flyback transformer. Good news is that the aux winding has the same number of turn as the secondary winding as shown in this link (e2e.ti.com/.../1401.PG1104NLrevMX3.pdf), so you should be able to get similar voltage level from the auxiliary winding.
