PMP6812: Reference design inquiry

Hi Team,

My customer is referring to PMP6812 for PoE PD design and they have the following questions.

1. L2 is shorted in the schematic. Is there any special purpose of doing so?

2. Is Q2 reserved only or needed? What is the effect on the system if Q2 is not used.

    Hi Andy,

    The designer for PMP6812 is out for the holidays right now so I will respond as best I can.

    1) L2 is provisioned for in the design in case additional filtering of the output voltage ripple is needed. If L2 is installed, there will be an additional LC filter stage which will reduce output voltage ripple.

    2) Q2 was likely included in the design to provide another footprint for testing out different MOSFETs to optimize the design.
