Hi Team,
A customer is requesting for overcurrent protection for DC Bus 12V-400VDC. applications. Is there a way we can configure the circuit in TIDA-00795 to work at 400VDC? If not do we have other solutions for over current protection at 12V-400VDC?
Regards,
Danilo
Hi Danilo,
Our reference design is target for overcurrent protection of 12V battery system. Maximum DC input operating voltage is only -28~28V. So it can be used in 12~400V battery directly.
However, if you want to apply this function in 12~400V battery rail, this means the reverse polarity protection and switch are also high voltage, so here is an isolated gate driver for the switches.
Also, this isolated bias can be supplied to INA300 and the output can be connect to MOS gate to turn off the switches once overcurrent happens.
This is the first opinion from my side. I will provide a more clear diagram in two days, is it okay for you?
Hi David,
Thank you for your quick response. It seems the image you have shared is broken. Can you resend it please?

Hi Danilo,
I wanted to insert an isolated gate driver for 400V disconnect switch application, but it didn't appear. Sorry for that.
So I quickly redraw the block diagram together with the gate driver and overcurrent protection. Here are two main modifications compared with TIDA-00795.
The first one is reverse polarity protection and switch. P-MOS is used in TIDA-00795 and almost there is no suitable P-MOS for 400V system. It should be changed to N-MOS and with related gate driver. An isolated gate driver works well and we have already won this socket in the market.
The second one is that our reference design TIDA-00795 is for 12V battery system and the common-mode voltage of INA330 is a critical issue while applied to 400V battery. Therefore, all the input of INA330 now is referred to floating ground.
I assume that there is a low battery voltage rail in the system and 12-400V is another battery rail.
Would you mind to tell me the details of the application, such as the system, overcurrent threshold....?
We are also very happy to provide the whole design to you if you need following support and provide us more information.
I attach a file this time and I hope you can see it.
