I went through MPPT charge controller reference design for buck converter (TIDA-010042). What changes to be done in H/W and S/W for boosting of solar panel voltage? kindly advice me.
Hi Natesan,
The present circuit is synchronous buck. So, theoretically if the input and output are interchanged, we should get a boost circuit. However, the MOSFET ratings will depend upon the maximum output voltage. This will be the major change. The sensing and aux power circuits can remain same.
As far as software is concerned, the basic MPPT algorithm will remain same. However, we will be optimizing for maximum power at the higher voltage side (in buck, it is at the lower voltage side). Also, the battery is now at the higher voltage side. So all battery sensing and charging control will be applied at the higher voltage side.

Thank you for the reply.
If I want to charge the Li-Ion or Li-Po battery, do I need to make any changes in the software other than system voltage settings?

Hi Natesan,
The software is made for Lead acid battery. So you need to change the charging algorithm to suit the battery type.
