WEBENCH® Tools/TPS53319: WEBENCH® Tools/ TINA tool/TPS53319

Part Number: TPS53319

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Normally we do load transient test with passive load or electronic load (current sink) practically.... but when i see texas webench tool and TINA tool(tutorial) there is a current generator or current pulse source is used to do load transient simulation at the load end, parallel to the fixed load.

Current sink is what we normally use for load transient, We will not use current source for load transient.

Can you please suggest me is there any option to do load transient simulation as per my requirement.

also let me know if any TI simulation tool having option to set load slew rate for load transient simulation

thanks

Adarsha A N

  • Hi Adarsha,

TPS53319 load transient block consists of a resistive load and pulse current source as shown below. The resistive load sets the lower value of the load transient profile and the pulse current source along with the resistor sets the hight value of load transient.

You can change the values of the Pulse current source and resistor as per your requirement by clicking on each load.

Alternatively, you can export the WEBENCH startup simulation test bench into TINA and modify the test bench as per your requirement.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • hi praveen

    thanks for the reply.

In the pulse current source "SAVE" option is disable, so i cannot change values as per requirement.

please check and let me know.

    thanks and regards

  • Hi Adarsha ,

The 'Save' option enables only if nominal values are within the specified range between Min & Max.

  • hi praveen,

    sorry for disturbing you again.

I am still having some doubts on load transient simulation.

    1) below is my load transient spec setting picture, I had set current current step 6A .

but when i see load transient block, the lower value is set to 1A & higher value is set to 10A. so the current step is 9A.

if i change transient response current step value in configure option from 6A to  other  values like 5A or 7A the load transient simulation block values  will remain same.

Please let me know transient response current step option in the configure option is for some other reason?

    2) if i update any value in the pulse current source it will become 0.0 current source and simulation fail message will pop up when i try run simulation.

with default values i can run simulation.

I  increased output capacitor and tried, but getting same simulation fail message for any customized values.

    thanks and regards

  • Hi Adarsha,

We are not able to see the attached images. Could you please attach the image again using the' insert file' option in the toolbar.

  • output voltage is configured for 5V..

  • Hi Adarsha,

Could you please share the WEBENCH design using 'Share Design' option as shown below.

Could you please also let us know the transient profile you are looking for?

    Iout max value=?

    Iout min value=?

Rise / fall time of transient=?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Praveen

  • hi Praveen,

I have shared my WEBENCH design,  and below is the link.

    https://webench.ti.com/appinfo/webench/scripts/SDP.cgi?ID=8D863D5D7C4629F0

and below is the transient profile i am looking for,

lower value( initial load current):- 4A.

    upper value:- 10A.

Rise time / Fall time: 2uS.

  • Hi Adarsha,

There is a bug in the Load transient Pulse Current source. We have fixed it and changes will reflect on ti.com by end of next week. However, We have created the WEBENCH design as per your requirement and simulated the load transient test bench(Please refer the page no.9 ).

Please find the WEBENCH design report. e2e.ti.com/.../WBDesign12845.pdf

Please note that the load transient is configured as given below

Lower value of load transient  set by the resistance value: Vout/Iout Min= 5V/4A= 1.25 ohm

Higher value  of the  load transient is set by I2 of Pulse current source along with load resistance: Iout Max=Iout Min+ I2=4A+6A=10A

Rise and fall time is set to 2us.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Praveen

  • hi Praveen,

    thanks for the support.

The ESR values for the input & output capacitors are different in the WEBENCH report compare to the design which i have shared.

could you please check this, and simulate the load transient test bench for values  in the shared design.

    thanks and regards

    Adarsha A N

  • HI Adarsha,

Please find the report with corrected value of ESR.
