CC2540EMK-USB: Unable to get sniffer working

Part Number: CC2540EMK-USB
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SMARTRFTM-STUDIO, CC2540,

Hi,

It's been a couple of years since I last used this tool. Now I can't get it working...

In an attempt to get it working, I have:

Downloaded the latest SmartRF Protocol Packet Sniffer V2.18.1, removed the old version, installed new.

Downloaded SMARTRFTM-STUDIO 2.12.0 and installed (needed this for the Windows 10 driver)

With the CC Debugger, I can flash the CC2540EMK-USB with the BLE Device Monitor firmware CC2540_USBDongle_HostTestRelease_All.hex and can see advertising BLE devices etc. In Device Manager I can see the debugger showing up under Cebal Controlled Devices and the dongle shows up on COM4. The LED on the dongle glows red continuously.

When I flash the dongle with the packet sniffer firmware ../Packet Sniffer/bin/general/firmware/sniffer_fw_cc2540_usb.hex, the green LED is lit continuously but no device shows up in Device Manger - not under Cebal nor under Ports (COM).

Along the way, BTool has stopped working. I can no longer bring the application up and in Windows Event Log, I see a .NET runtime error being reported. I am running concurrent .NET 3.5 and 4.7.

The most important thing for me is to get the sniffer working - BTool can wait. Do you have an suggestions on what I should try next?

Regards,

ac
