CC2564: How is the Bluetooth transmitter - GFSK Maximum RF output power defined

The Maximum RF output power is specified as min 10dBm and typical 12dBm.

1. How is this defined?

For instance, is this measured in a bespoke setup with a single tone of certain frequency, or a series of packets with data rate and data? Is this the peak power measured for any packet, or the average power across one packet, average across a range of channels etc.

2. What is the recommended method for verifying the transmit power when the part is incorporated in our design? (Single frequency, channel 1, 1 Mbps, 9 prbs into a packet analyser or spectrum analyser with max hold enabled?)

    I hope all is well. The data sheet numbers for output power is measured is the average power during its transmit time for a given frequency and modulation. For example, if you where to transmit a continuous signal for a given channel, you would then measure the channel power (average) to determine what the output power would be. You can do this with a spectrum analyzer to measure the channel power, or you can use an instrument such as an IQView where it is able to measure the channel power. Since the signal will be 100% duty cycle, you can use max hold and the number you measure will be the average power.

    On the other hand, if the signal you transmit is not 100%, then you need to determine the duty cycle and add the duty cycle correction factor to the measured data. You can do this using zero span on the spectrum analyzer. For example if the duty cycle is 50%, then you would add 3dB to the measured data on the spectrum analyzer using max hold.
