RF430F5978: lowest latency RF module

Part Number: RF430F5978
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101, CC1120

Hi,

I'm looking for lowest latency RF prosperity transceiver module. Something that I can transmit and receive (one way) in micro seconds. The distance is about 25feet. I can do any either ISM or 2.4G. If you have any suggestions please me know.

Thanks,

  • How is latency measured in this case? I believe that all the part we have have some latency but need to understand the requirement.

  • latency is measured from the time a packet is transmitted (for example, enable gpio on receiver chip) to gpio being enabled on receiver module. Basically, we are looking for fast feed back wireless control chip. That's why we are looking for custom solution with very little overhead messaging.  Thanks

  • On the transceivers (CC1101, CC1120) the start of RX/ TX is done by a strobe command over the SPI interface meaning that it takes some time from starting to send the command to the command is executed. Also is RX: A pin is set when a sync word is found/ packet received but I assume that some post processing on the packet has be done (reading it out and determine the action based on the content)?

I think CC1101 is the device with the lowest latency. CC1120 has more filtering/ post processing and will have some bits latency through the receive chain.
