LP-CC2652R7: Energytrace

Part Number: LP-CC2652R7
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ENERGYTRACE

Hi,

I want to use two Launchpads in parallel. If i try to start a current measurement in CLI with stune the measurement will be interrupted and I got the message "BAD DATA detected". Is there too much traffic on the USB? Or what is the root cause?

One more question: as mentioned I start the measurement in CLI. I have to enter a output file there. Is this really nessaccery? Or is there any way to leave it?

Best Regards
Sebastian

  • Hi Sebastian,

The XDS110ET LaunchPads will have the same maximum current capabilities as the TMDSEMU110-U, which is to say Energytrace can measure the consumption of a target board up to 75mA natively.  With the TMDSEMU110-ETH add-on it is capable of up to 800mA.  EnergyTrace supports only one LaunchPad being connected to the PC at any time and the .out file is mandatory.

  • Hi Ryan,

thanks. If I use the CLI and stune is it not possible to connect two Launchpads at same time? If I start the measurement I often get "BAD DATA detected". What does this error message mean? And why does it occur?

    BR Sebastian

  • Hi Sebastian,

May I kindly ask you to specify whether you obtain the error message "BAD DATA detected" only when connecting two LaunchPads, or it also occurs when only one LaunchPad is used?

In addition, could you please provide the log you obtain so we can identify more easily the issue?

    Best regards,

  • I get the error message if I connect two Launchpads. So I'm interested why?

    "BAD DATA detected
    Stopping energytrace after 5000ms
0.17 secs: Avg Current: 12.538065 mA  Max Current: 13.283466 mA  Min Current: 0.000000 mA  Total Energy = 7116.606 uJ"

  • The EnergyTrace stune Command Line Utility is a simple tool in that it does not differentiate between multiple connected XDS110 devices, meaning that EnergyTrace measurements will observe interference with other LaunchPads connected to the PC.  You can also see Section 3.6.5 of SPRUI94.  I recommend testing the power consumption of each board individually.
